The City Birth Trauma Scale was developed to conform to full diagnostic criteria for childbirth-related PTSD. However, in healthcare and research we often need a brief assessment tool that can be used to quickly identify those who have had a traumatic birth and have PTSD symptoms. A short version was therefore developed in collaboration with researchers and health professionals, using data from 31 countries. The short version has 5 questions - one question about whether birth was traumatic, and four questions assessing the four core symptoms of PTSD. The short version is available as a standard or fillable form. Scoring instructions are also available.
